Do you need Prime to get the deals?

Prime Big Deal Days and Prime Day: yes

These two sales are for Prime members only. Regular Prime is $14.99 a month or $139 a year, and new members can usually start with a free trial. Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals on Amazon are generally open to everyone.

Prime Access: $6.99 a month

Amazon does not have an age-based senior discount. But Prime Access gives the full Prime membership for $6.99 a month to people who receive qualifying government assistance, such as Medicaid or SNAP EBT, or who qualify through Amazon’s income verification. Medicare by itself does not qualify.

How to shop Amazon sales safely

Check if the deal is real

  • Look at the price history on the product page before you buy. A big “percent off” does not always mean a low price.
  • Buy what you would have bought anyway. A discount is not a reason to buy a walker, lift or bed rail that does not fit.
  • Check the return window before you order, especially for large items.

Watch out for sale-time scams

  • Scammers send texts, emails and calls that pretend to be Amazon during big sales.
  • Do not click links in unexpected messages about orders or refunds. Open the Amazon app or type amazon.com yourself.
  • Never pay anyone with gift cards because they say they are from Amazon.
  • If a family member helps you shop, agree on a simple rule: check with each other before paying for anything unexpected.
Is there an Amazon senior discount?
Not based on age. The main way older adults save on Prime is Prime Access ($6.99 a month) if they receive Medicaid, SNAP or another qualifying program, or qualify by income.
Do you list deal prices on this page?
No. Amazon prices change many times during a sale, so we send you to Amazon to see the current price instead of showing a number that may already be wrong.
When will you update this page?
Before every major Amazon sale. The date at the top shows the last update.
