How We Choose Products
Reliable Consumer helps older adults and their families find practical products that make everyday life easier, safer and more independent. Here is exactly how a product earns a place in our videos and guides, and what we will never claim.
What we look at
1. A real everyday problem
We start with a problem older adults actually have: gripping, reaching, standing up, bathing, seeing small print, hearing the TV, remembering routines or staying connected with family. A product has to solve one of these clearly.
2. The exact Amazon listing
We research the specific listing we link to: the product details, the maker’s information, what is included and any compatibility limits. If we cannot confirm a feature, we leave it out. We do not copy product descriptions.
3. Senior accessibility and limits
Is it easy to grip, see, set up and use? Does it need an app, Wi-Fi, drilling or a helper to install? We say who it is for and when we would skip it, and we point out safety limits, especially for bathroom, mobility and fall-related products.
4. Signals from real shoppers
We look at review volume and ratings on the listing as a sanity check, not as our verdict. Where we have it, we also use our own Amazon Associates data on what our viewers actually bought. That is the only basis for our “Viewer favorite” label.
5. Editorial judgement
Finally we decide. Sometimes the cheap, simple product is the right answer; sometimes paying more is worth it. Our verdicts say which, and why.
What we will never do

- We do not say a product is “hands-on tested” unless we physically tested it.
- We do not invent prices, star ratings, reviews or customer stories.
- We do not present ourselves as doctors, therapists or engineers, and our content is not medical advice.
- Brands do not pay to appear in our lists.
- We do not show prices we cannot keep up to date; we send you to Amazon for today’s price.
